News Release
June 2003
(Bethlehem, Pennsylvania) — Moravian
College was recently named a member of the Annapolis Group, an organization
of the leading national independent liberal arts colleges, who join
together to share mutual interests and information that will strengthen
their respective educational programs. The Annapolis Group is comprised
of 117 Carnegie Baccalaureate I institutions from across the country.
The group works cooperatively and collectively to promote greater public
understanding of the purpose and value of liberal arts education.
The Annapolis Group was formed 10 years ago though
the efforts of the presidents of Franklin & Marshall, Gettysburg,
and Dickinson Colleges who were joined by 20 colleges to create the
group. The group
of college presidents began meeting in Annapolis, Maryland to discuss
common concerns.
Four institutions were added to the group this spring; they include
Moravian College, Hollins University, Kalamazoo College, and William
Jewell College.
Moravian College president Dr. Ervin J. Rokke and
Dr. Curtis Keim, vice president for academic affairs and dean of
the faculty, will be
attending the June 15-17 annual meeting at the Loews Annapolis Hotel
in Annapolis, Maryland. Topics for discussion include affirmative action
in college admissions, accreditation issues, HEA reauthorization, media
trends, the Pathway Program, and financial issues—such as cuts,
capital campaigns, and endowments.
Moravian College is a private, coeducational, selective liberal arts
college located in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Tracing its founding to
1742, it is recognized as America's sixth-oldest college. Visit the
