(Bethlehem, Pennsylvania)—Moravian College alumna Jessica Coughlin ’99,
a graduate of Bethlehem Catholic High School, was a contestant on the
new NBC reality show, “Race to the Altar,” which premiered
Wednesday, July 30. Coughlin and her fiancé Scott were the first
couple booted off the show in which eight engaged couples compete in
a series of elaborate physical competitions and smaller non-physical
games that force them to work together as a team. At the end of each
episode, one couple is eliminated until the season finale -- when the
last remaining couple wins a dream wedding of a lifetime broadcast
on NBC.
At the end of the first show which premiered last night, the host
read the invitation list which included five couples, but didn't include
Scott and Jessica. Afterwards, we learned that Jessica and Scott had
set a wedding date for October 2, 2004.
Coughlin excelled both academically and athletically
at Moravian. She was a 1999 GTE Academic All-American and graduated
with a 3.78
grade-point average in economics. She was also named to the Middle
Atlantic Conference Executive Director’s All-Academic Team for
tennis during the Lady Greyhounds season during fall of 1998. She helped
Moravian win the MAC Championship in 1996, 1997 and 1998 as well as
the MAC Commonwealth League title in 1996 and 1998.
Coughlin completed the 1998 season with perfect 14-0 record and completed
her singles career at Moravian with the highest winning percentage
in school history at .969, winning 62 of 64 career matches. Coughlin
posted a 40-6 career record in doubles competition..
Coughlin also played guard for the Lady Greyhound
women’s basketball
squad. During 1998 Coughlin became the 12th player in school history
to score 1,000 points in a career. She completed her career with 1,137
points (7th all-time), 346 assists (2nd all-time), 312 steals (2nd
all-time) and 166 three-pointers (3rd all-time) in 99 career games.
Coughlin helped the basketball team to the MAC playoffs as a freshman,
sophomore and junior.
