(Bethlehem, Pennsylvania)— In celebration
of Hispanic Heritage Month, Moravian College will present a lecture
by media icon and activist
Felipe Luciano on October 16 at 7:30 p.m. The program will be held
in Prosser Auditorium, located in the Haupert Union Building. It is
open to the public and admission is free of charge.
Born and raised in New York City, Luciano is the founder and chairman
of the Young Lords Party, a group dedicated to community empowerment,
ethnic pride, and civil rights. This passionate commitment has led
to important changes in politics, culture, and society from New York
to Puerto Rico. Luciano acts an advisor to state and local government
leaders and corporations on issues such as growing markets, the Latino
community, coalition building, diversity, and multiculturalism. He
is currently a consultant for an HBO film on the Young Lords.
Luciano is also a well-known success in all areas of entertainment
and media including television, lectures, music, poetry, journalism,
and stage productions. He was the first Puerto Rican news anchor on
a network broadcast for WNBC. Through spoken word and rap music and
as a member of the Original Last Poets, Luciano has successfully challenges
stereotypes and predicted and created changing trends in the industry
and related markets.
The Haupert Union Building is located at the corner
of Monocacy and Locust streets on Moravian’s Main Street Campus. The lecture
is sponsored by Moravian College’s IMPACT, Multicultural Club,
