(Bethlehem, Pennsylvania)—The Moravian College Monday Night
Speaker Series will present, “Country of Birth and Country of
Choice,” by guest speaker, Mr. Suleiman (Sunny) Modjadidi, on
Monday, November 10th at 7 p.m. in Prosser Auditorium.
Modjadidi will share his personal journey from
Afghanistan, his “country
of birth,” to the United States, his “country of choice”.
His talk will describe briefly the Afghanistan of 1968, the Soviet
invasion of 1979, the Taleban rule and post-Taleban Afghanistan. He
also will relate the process of his arrival at Moravian College, and
will discuss the changes in the U.S. since 1968. The presentation is
designed to encourage a wide-range of questions for audience participation
to discuss important issues that concern the world today.
Modjadidi is the general manager of International
Customer Relations for the FLSmidth Company. He earned a B.A. in
history from Moravian
College, and a Master’s degree in International Relations at
Lehigh University.
Throughout his personal and professional life, Modjadidi has traveled
to more than fifty countries, including the Far East, the Middle-East,
Europe and South America. He continues to serve on numerous Moravian
College alumni boards and committees, and is equally active in local
and nationally-linked community organizations, volunteering his time
and talents to serve on projects directed to community needs.
The Monday Night Lecture Series is sponsored by the Moravian College
Alumni Association and the Public Relations office. The lecture is
free and open to the public. A cafeteria-style dinner ($7.70) is available
in the United Brethren Church Room at 6:15 p.m. prior to the lecture.
