(Bethlehem, Pennsylvania)— To celebrate the Fourth
Annual International Education Week, Moravian College is planning a
week filled with fun activities. Friday, November 14 will mark the
kick off of International Education week with Taste of Culture –Africa,
featuring food and activities inspired by the African continent. Sponsored
by IMPACT, this event will be held in the Haupert Union Building (HUB).
Monday, November 17, will feature Hounds Around the World: Photography
Exhibition which will display pictures of Moravian Students who have
studied abroad as well as international students studying at Moravian.
First, second, and third prizes will be awarded at the end of the exhibit.
An international career table will be at the career
fair on Tuesday, November 18, from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. in the HUB. The
Career Development
Services Office and the Office of International Studies will host a
Career Fair Workshop: How to Market Your Study Abroad Experience will
be held from 4 – 5 p.m. in the Priscilla Payne Hurd Academic
Complex (PPHAC) 232.
Sones de Mexico comes to Moravian on Wednesday, November 19 at 7:30
p.m. in Foy Concert Hall, South (Hurd) Campus. Sponsored by the Moravian
College Music Institute, tickets are just $6 for students, senior citizens,
and children under 12 years of age. General admission is just $12.
The International Club, the French Club, the Spanish Club, and the
German Club are co-sponsoring an International Poetry Coffee House
from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on South (Hurd) Campus Coffee House. Poetry
will be read in different languages, including English, and international
coffees, teas, and snacks will be served.
Thursday, November 20, will feature a Flag Raising
Ceremony from 11:30 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Flag Pole, sponsored by the International
Club. Flags representing the countries of Moravian’s international
students will be raised. International students will also share their
culture with fourth and fifth graders at the William Penn School, Main
Street, Bethlehem.
Later that day, the Moravian College Arts and Lectures Committee and
the French Club will sponsor an International Dinner and Film at 5:30
p.m. in the Laros Room. French cuisine will be served followed by the
film Amelie (2002: Jean-Pierre Jeunet). A German film will also be
shown at 8 p.m. in the Doghouse, sponsored by the German Club.
Another international event already concluded was
a Spanish Club Fiesta on Friday, November 7 from 8 – 11 p.m. in the Pavilion. In honor
of Hispanic Heritage Month and Day of the Dead, the Spanish Club will
host a party with prizes, music, dance lessons, dance contest, Hispanic
food, and a most creative costume competition. On Monday, November
10 at 7 p.m. in Prosser Auditorium, Mr. Suleiman (Sunny) Modjadidi,
General Manage of International Customer Relations, FISmidth Company,
will share his personal journey from Afghanistan, his “Country
of Birth,” to the United States, his “Country of Choice.” His
presentation is sponsored by the Moravian College Alumni Association
and the Public Relations Office.
