Moravian College names four to Board of Trustees

(Bethlehem, Pennsylvania)—The Moravian College Board of Trustees recently elected two additional members to its ranks: educator Nancy Cohen Engels and entrepreneur John Kemps. Also named to the Board were faculty representative Rosalind Remer, associate professor of history at the College, and junior Danielle Liberatore, as student representative.

A retired Language Arts and Humanities High School teacher, Ms. Engels graduated from the Moravian Seminary for Girls in 1965 and earned her B.A. from the University of Miami in 1969. She is the daughter of Mrs. Berte Cohen, a life trustee at Moravian and benefactor of the Cohen Arts and Lectures Series at the College. Each year, the Cohen Arts and Lectures Series brings prominent national speakers to the greater Lehigh Valley. Engels currently resides in Miami, Florida with her husband, attorney Martin Engels. They have two children: Kenneth and Julie. Kenneth, 33, attended Amherst College and NYU Law School and is currently a Product Developer for Wireless Applications. Julie, 28, attended Brown University and is now in her third year at Loyola Law School.

John Kemps is president of Emmaus-based Celebration Fireworks, Inc., which specializes in fireworks displays for private and public events. Before founding Celebration Fireworks, Kemps devoted 25 years to engineering, production, sales, marketing, and management in the semiconductor industry. He was a cofounder in 1997 of AANetcom, Inc., an Allentown-based firm specializing in hardware for high speed serial communications. In March 2000, AANetcom was acquired by PMC-Sierra, Inc. That same year, Kemps and his wife Jenny, a social worker in Emmaus, established the Windmill Foundation Scholarship Fund for adult students at Moravian College. Kemps earned a B.S. in electrical engineering from the University of Pennsylvania in 1973 and his M.B.A. from Dartmouth College in 1978. He is currently on the Board of Directors of the Community Action Committee of the Lehigh Valley (CACLV). The Kemps have three children: Courtney, 25, a graduate of Georgetown University; Schyler, 21; and Alex, 18, a freshman at Southern Illinois University.

Dr. Rosalind Remer has been an associate professor of history at Moravian College since 1991. Dr. Remer was director of museum planning and programming for the recently dedicated National Constitution Center in Philadelphia. She earned her B.A. in History from the University of California, Berkley, in 1984 and her M.A. and Ph.D. in American History from UCLA 1986 and 1991, respectively. Remer is the current president of the Pennsylvania Historical Association. A recognized scholar and educator in early American history, Remer resides in Glenside with her husband, James N. Green, an associate librarian at the Library Company of Philadelphia.

Danielle Liberatore, a resident of Nazareth, is a junior at Moravian College. A graduate of Notre Dame High School in East Stroudsburg in 2001, Liberatore was named Moravian’s Most Outstanding Sophomore Leader in 2003. Liberatore is an active member of United Student Government and The Learning Connection, a mentoring program for at-risk middle-school students.
