News Release
August 2004
Bethlehem, Pa.—New York-based, Canadian-born,
jazz pianist, D.D. Jackson will perform “Suite for New
York” at Moravian College on Sunday, September 19, at 7:30
p.m. in Foy Concert Hall. Jackson will perform with his Octet
which is comprised of a piano trio, string quartet, and alto
sax legend James Spaulding.
D.D. Jackson is the recipient of a 2004 Canada
Council Project Grant awarded to arrange the music from his Juno-nominated
CD Suite for New York for full orchestra. The disc, which Jazz
Times magazine hailed as “an impressive montage of controlled
chaos, exciting solo work, and promise of things to come: a febrile
fusion of futuristic jazz, contemporary classical, streetwise
funk, and Afro-Cuban sensuality,” is both a celebration
of his adoptive home and a meditation on the events of 9/11.
Jackson has performed and recorded with some of
the most important names in cutting edge jazz including James
Carter, Jane Bunnett, Billy Bang, Chico Freeman, Carlos Ward
and Dewey Redman. He has toured several continents as a regular
member of the David Murray Big Band, Octet, Quartet, and the
David Murray/D.D. Jackson Duo, and has appeared on three David
Murray albums including the acclaimed “Octet Plays ‘Trane.”
Jackson received his Bachelor of Music with High
Distinction in Classical Piano from Indiana University in 1989,
and his Master of Music in Jazz from the Manhattan School of
Music in 1991.For a full biography, please visit www.ddjackson.com.
