Bethlehem, Pa., August 9, 2005—Emily Klein ’07, Northampton, Pa., feature
twirler with the Moravian College Marching Band and Color Guard, recently represented
the North Atlantic region in the national baton twirling association’s American
Youth on Parade (AYOP) at Notre Dame University in South Bend, Indiana. She placed first
in solo and strut events, and third overall in the Miss Majorette event.
Klein, a junior
at the college, is majoring in elementary education and psychology. She combines her
love of the sport with her love of children by teaching young twirlers the basics of
baton twirling. Klein has been twirling since the age of four and competing with the
National Baton Twirling Association (NBTA) since the age of six. The marching band
performs at home football games as well as for exhibitions and the Bethlehem Halloween
Parade, under the direction of James Barnes, director of instrumental music at Moravian
College.
Moravian College is a private, coeducational, selective liberal arts college
