August 2005
Bethlehem,
Pa., Tuesday, August 09, 2005—Dr. Robert Wilson-Black was recently named vice president
for institutional advancement at Moravian College and Moravian Theological Seminary.
He replaces Robert Schoenen, who has stepped down after more than four years of dedicated
and effective service to the College and Seminary.
“Rob brings exceptional talents and an impressive record of achievement
in institutional advancement to Moravian, especially in fund-raising for higher education,” said
Ervin J. Rokke, Moravian College president. “Rob was selected as our new vice president
for institutional advancement after a rigorous and highly competitive search process.
A committee comprising trustees, faculty, students, and administrators led that search
effort. All of us who met and interviewed Rob were impressed at his professional and
personal acumen, tremendous energy, unfailing collegiality, and clear commitment to the
fundamental mission of a liberal arts institution such as ours. Those qualities will
serve him very well as he works to elicit and deliver even greater resources and support
for the College and Seminary.”
During the past three years, Wilson-Black has served as vice president
for development at the University of St. Francis in Joliet, Illinois. From 1999 to 2002,
he was vice president of Meadville Lombard Theological School at the University of Chicago,
where he led that school’s fund-raising, alumni relations, and public relations
activities. Wilson-Black also served as director of College and Graduate Funds at the
University of Chicago from 1995-1999. In these key positions, he planned and executed
successful campaigns that exceeded established goals, and directed annual fund, major
gift, and planned giving programs.
Wilson-Black has complemented his career in institutional advancement with
equally impressive scholarship. A published writer and lecturer, he earned a B.A. in
Religion & Sociology, and an M.H. in History from the University of Richmond; and
an M.A. in Religious Studies and a Ph.D. in American History and Religion from the University
of Chicago.
