Bethlehem, Pa., September 19, 2005—Family members and friends of Moravian College
students are invited to experience Moravian College campus life on Saturday, September
24, during the College’s annual Family Day fall celebration.
Events begin at the HUB Kiosk with registration and a morning "coffee session," when
students and their families can meet with student affairs staff and members of the Parents’ Council.
Families will be welcomed by Moravian College president, Dr. Ervin
J. Rokke in the HUB Pavilion, at 9:30 a.m. Family Day participants may then choose
to attend one of three sessions on campus-related topics. Joanne Belletti-Molle ’82 will present “Life
after Moravian: An Alumni Perspective about Career Opportunities.” Other alumni
also will share their perspectives on how Moravian prepared them for the work-world and
fostered their abilities to be successful.
Jennifer Creamer, director of international studies, will present “Study Abroad
101 for Parents,” an explanation of opportunities for students of all majors to
study abroad. She will address why studying abroad is such a critical and exciting part
of the liberal arts educational experience, as well as discuss how to plan for a successful
career.
The art
department, will offer parents a chance to take a trip back to the classroom
for a visit with Leonardo da Vinci. Since The Da Vinci Code hit the bestseller lists
everything Leonardo has been very popular. Is there any truth behind the theories in
the novel? What was Leonardo’s true importance as an artist and the quintessential
Renaissance Man? See how art history has changed as we begin to use digital presentations
instead of slides, and enjoy a visit to Renaissance Italy.
Lunch with a carnival flavor will be served in Johnston Hall. The entertainment will
be provided by a balloon man, a caricaturist, and a magician. Those attending will also
have the opportunity to have their picture taken in a giant chair.
"Sports" is the afternoon’s agenda, when Moravian shows-off both its
women’s and men’s soccer teams as well as its football team. Both the women’s
and men’s soccer teams will play Widener University at 1 p.m. and at 3 p.m., respectively.
Moravian’s football team will face Juniata College on the newly-rechristened Rocco
Calvo Field at Steel Field Complex at 1:00 p.m.
From 2 to 4 p.m., the Payne Gallery on Priscilla Payne Hurd Campus
will host an exciting exhibit. For the science-minded, Kelly Krieble, assistant professor
of physics, will enlist the help of students in presenting some remarkable physics
experiments. Movie fans are invited to watch this summer’s popular release “Bewitched” in
Prosser Auditorium. Tours of historic Bethlehem and shopping excursions also are planned
for the afternoon.
At 4:30 p.m., following the football game, all are invited to a
Mass in Borhek Chapel. The day will end with a “Tastes from Around the World” dinner
buffet in the HUB dining room. A variety of cuisine from around the world will be served
while diners are treated to a performance of the Moravian College Jazz Ensemble.
