Bethlehem, Pa., October 10, 2005—The Moravian College Theatre Company
will present Arthur Kopit’s translation of Henrik Ibsen’s GHOSTS in
the Arena Theatre at Moravian College: Thursday, Friday and Saturday, October 20-22 at
8 p.m., with matinees on Saturday and Sunday, October 22 and 23 at 2 p.m.
Ibsen’s nineteenth century classic of love and betrayal is a searing
portrait of a community whose repressive and hypocritical sense of morality devastates
lives. As Pastor Manders and the widow Mrs. Alving prepare for the opening of an orphanage
in memory of her late husband, her son Oswald returns from Paris in deteriorating health,
with his eye on the family maid. Haunted by family secrets, Mrs. Alving must decide whether
to admit the truth about her husband’s past or to protect the family’s reputation
at all costs. As relevant today as it was when it was written, the play reminds us why
Ibsen remains one of the most important playwrights of all time.
The cast will feature Dan Sigley, Pat Van Varick, Adam Spaugh, Chris Jones,
and Julia Gasdaska. Directing the production is Jack Ramsey. Christine Roach serves as
stage manager. Costumes are by William F. Bauman. Lighting design is by Kathleen Kort,
assisted by Ellen Ritter.
