Bethlehem, Pa., October 12, 2005—The Leadership Center at Moravian
College has established a mini-grant program to enhance meaningful collaborative efforts
between the college and the community for their mutual benefit, and that will impact
student learning and development. The center is accepting proposals from student-faculty
teams to apply for grants to fund initiatives that foster collaboration between the
college and the local community.
“Many Moravian College faculty and students are currently involved with local
community initiatives. This funding opportunity will offer financial support to those
who could enhance their work—or to those individuals who propose a new College-community
connection,” said Michele Schmidt, co-director of the Leadership Center at Moravian
College. “The proposal for a community grant must be made by a student-faculty
team that has already sought cooperation from a community partner, such as a school,
church, non-profit, neighborhood association, or hospital. The proposal may be for an
on-going project or a one-time workshop, event, or activity.”
Proposals must contain clearly defined goals, benefits, and outcomes, as well as clearly
defined assigned roles and tasks for all parties involved in the project. A proposed
budget must be submitted that outlines how the money will be spent and a rationale for
each expense. At the end of the academic year, all grant recipients will participate
in an event that will highlight their projects.
