News Release
October 2005
Bethlehem, Pa., October 13, 2005—H. Paty Eiffe, retired director of student activities
and the HUB, Moravian College’s student union, has given the College a gift to
support a exhibit series in the gallery that bears her name. Eiffe’s award honors
the art work of college and university art faculty from the area. A different institution
will be chosen each year.
The first of what is to be an annual H. Paty Eiffe Invitational award
went to Jan Crooker, an art adjunct faculty member at Moravian, whose large still-life
paintings are on display in the gallery exhibit, “Life Lessons and New Explorations:
Paintings in oil and acrylic by Jan Crooker.”
“Life lessons are hidden in the subject matter of life. They are there for us
to discover – hidden in the reflection, color, intensity, shape, and depth of our
experiences. Children naturally tap into this rich symbolism,” said Crooker. “My
artistic goal is to explore the love of color and symbolism that we experienced as children.”
Crooker is a member of Moravian College’s Art Department faculty,
teaching drawing, painting, and art education. She is a resident of Kutztown, where
she is also a city council member.
Eiffe was director of the Haupert Union from 1962-1995. The H. Paty Eiffe Gallery is
located throughout the hallways on the upper level of the Haupert Union Building, at
Laurel and Monocacy Streets on the Main Campus of Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
. During the academic year, different art exhibits representing a wide range of media
are displayed. Art receptions are held in the HUB Lounge in honor of the artists. The
Art Department sponsors student art shows each winter and spring. The gallery is open
to the public free of charge. The Haupert Union Building is open daily 8:00 a.m. to 12:00
midnight.
