Bethlehem, Pa. October 17, 2005—Moravian College will hold “Homecoming Houndfest,” the
2005 annual homecoming weekend from Thursday, October 20 to Sunday, October 23. Weekend
highlights include the Alumni Speakers Program; the Moravian College Theater Company’s
fall performance; the 14th Annual Rocco Calvo Invitational Alumni Golf Tournament; the
6th Annual Alumni Awards Ceremony; and the Homecoming football game.
Homecoming begins on Thursday, October 20, at 6:30 p.m. with the Alumni
Speaker Program in the Haupert Union Building. Dr. Peter French ’60, associate
vice president and dean for Academic Affairs at the University of South Florida, will
present “Sub-Saharan Africa at Mid-Passage:
Reflections on Four Decades of Independence and Challenges in the New Century,” sponsored
by the college Forum.
Alumni are invited to attend a performance of Ibsen’s Ghosts
by the Moravian College Theater Company. Performances are: Thursday, October 20, and
Friday, October 21, at 8:00 p.m.; Saturday, October 22, at 2:00 and 8:00 p.m.; and
Sunday, October 23, at 2:00 p.m. General admission is $13.00 and $9 for students and
senior citizens. Performances will be held at The Arena Theater, located on the lower
level of the Haupert Union Building. Please call the Box Office at 610 861-1489 for

On Friday, October 21 the fun kicks off with the 14th Annual Rocco Calvo Invitational
Alumni Golf Tournament at Southmoore Golf Club. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. with
tee-off at 10:00 a.m.
The 6th Annual Alumni Awards Ceremony will take place at 7:30 p.m.
in Peter Hall, located on the Priscilla Payne Hurd Campus. This year’s awards recipients are Dr. Peter
French ’60, Marjorie Flohr Weiss ’46, Richard Bedics ’63, Sean Richardson ’97,
and Jessica Edris ’00.
French, president emeritus of Newberry College and associate vice
president and dean of academic affairs at the University of South Florida’s Sarasota Campus, will
be presented with the Comenius Alumni Award. The Comenius Alumni Award is the Moravian
College Alumni Association’s highest honor and recognizes the recipient’s
lifetime achievement in his field of work.
Weiss will receive the Haupert Humanitarian Award for her outstanding service in the
cause of human welfare. Bedics is to be honored with the Benigna Education Award for
his work in the field of education. Richardson will be the recipient of the Young Alumni
Achievement Award for his professional success since graduating from Moravian. Edris
will be presented with the Emerging Leader Award, which is awarded to a recent alumnus
or alumna for dedicated service and leadership to the college.
Tours of the new Writing Center will be held on Saturday, October
22 during the English Department’s open house in Zinzendorf Hall from 10 a.m. until noon. The Alumni
Painting Exhibition and Reception featuring alumni artists from the last decade will
be on display at the Haupert Union Building Gallery at 10:30 a.m. Additionally, the Business
and Economics Department will host a brunch form 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. The Past
Alumni Presidents and Trustees Brunch will be served at 9:00 a.m. in the Haupert Union
Building’s Amrheim Room.
The Moravian College Greyhounds will take on Wilkes University at
1 p.m. at Rocco Calvo Field. “Houndfest” will offer a smorgasbord of opportunities for alumni to
congregate on the field for Homecoming. MBA alumni and current students are invited to
tailgate from 11 a.m. until 3 p m. All alumni attending “Houndfest” have
the opportunity to purchase tables and grilles for tailgaters on the practice field at
a cost of $15; or a la carte items will be available throughout the day. A Kidsfest area
will be set-up for children.
The classes of 1985, 1990, 1995, and 2000 will hold reunions in tents
on the Houndfest field. In case of inclement weather, or if the practice field is wet,
Houndfest may be cancelled. Announcements begin at 8:30 a.m. on the following stations:
