Bethlehem, Pa., November 9, 2005—Moravian College will host an Open House specifically
for prospective students with an interest in science-related fields of study on Friday,
November 11. The day’s focus is designed to exceed the usual broad-based open house
experience and concentrate on topics important to students who wish to pursue a science
education in a liberal arts academic environment.
The program begins at 8:30 a.m. with registration and a faculty reception
in the Haupert Union Building. At 9:05 a.m. the welcoming address will take place,
followed by a discussion of “The Natural Sciences in a Liberal Arts Context.”
From 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., parents and students may tour Moravian’s
beautiful Main Street Campus, led by a Moravian College 26-Points student ambassador.
Two informational sessions and departmental presentations are scheduled to finish out
the morning in Collier Hall of Science and Priscilla Payne Hurd Academic Complex. Students
with their parents can choose to attend seminars addressing the following specific
interests: Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Environmental Studies,
Mathematics, Nursing, Physics, and Mathematics and Science Education. Session I lasts
from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m., and Session II is scheduled from 11:50 to 12:50 p.m.
Presenters, parents, and potential Moravian students will break for a forty-five-minute
lunch at 12:55 p.m., to be served in the Haupert Union Building dining hall. Visitors
will then return to Prosser Auditorium where James Mackin, director of admissions, will
discuss Moravian admission and financial aid policies. Information will also be provided
on student opportunities for academic research and the Honors Program at Moravian.
