Bethlehem, Pa., November 18, 2005—The Moravian College BIG Band and Jazz Vocal
Ensemble will kick off the holidays with “Jazz Sounds of the Season” on Sunday,
November 20. The performance will feature such holiday classics as “Santa Claus
is Coming to Town,” “Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer,” “Sleigh
Ride,” “Waltz of the Flowers,” and “Baby It’s Cold Outside” with
a jazz flair.
The concert will begin at 4:00 p.m. in Foy Concert Hall on the College’s
Priscilla Payne Hurd Campus, located at the corner of Main and Church Streets in Bethlehem.
Admission is $6.
The Moravian College BIG Band is a traditional-sized big band, consisting
of five saxophones, five trumpets, four trombones, and a full rhythm section. Under
the direction of Neil Wetzel, assistant professor of music and director of jazz studies
at Moravian, the band’s
repertoire includes traditional big band and swing music as well as modern compositions.
The Jazz Vocal Ensemble is directed by adjunct faculty member Lou Lanza and studies the
arts of jazz singing and creating lyrics and vocal improvisation. Both groups meet weekly
to rehearsal and are open to all Moravian College students.
