“Hounds around the World” Exhibit Winners Named

Bethlehem, Pa., December 5, 2005— The Moravian College International Studies Office recently announced the winners of its annual Hounds around the World International Photography Exhibition. The exhibit, which was held between November 11 and December 5, featured the work of students who have studied abroad in the past year. It was held in the Paty Eiffe Gallery of the college’s Haupert Union Building. This year’s display included work by 19 students.

The First Place Award and People’s Choice Award winner was “Bisuteria” by Stephanie Giebler. The photograph features a Spanish street. Rays of sunshine penetrate the holes between the buildings to create an almost magical effect on the scene. The picture is rich in color, particularly reds and yellows.

Second Place was awarded to Jindrich Novak, who is studying abroad at Moravian from the Czech Republic. His photograph, “Monument Valley,” features one of the famous sandstone mittens against a bright blue sky. The formation reflects in the window of the house to the side.

Todd Bennett and Judy Stevenson received Honorable Mentions. Bennett was awarded for “Lost in Dubrovnik,” a black and white photograph taken in the war-torn Croatian city. Buildings line both sides of the street as a stepped roadway leads to more adventure. Stevenson’s “The Great Monastery at Meteora” depicts a small Greek stone monastery shrouded in fog atop a hill. A series of simple stone steps lead up to the building.
