Bethlehem, Pa., December 5, 2005—The Moravian College Art Club will hold a charity
auction to benefit hurricane victims on Wednesday, December 7 at 5:30 p.m. in Payne Gallery.
Works donated by Moravian students, faculty, staff, and alumni will be offered for bids.
Payne Gallery is located on Moravian College’s Priscilla Payne Hurd Campus at the
corner of Main and Church Streets in Bethlehem. Attendance at the auction is free and
open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
The auction is being coordinated by Jon Latiano, president of the Art Club, Emily Starner,
vice president of the Art Club, and art major Chelsea Shepherd, in collaboration with
Dr. Diane Radycki, Art Club advisor, and Jan Ciganick, co-advisor.
The Art Club will accept donations of artwork until the morning of the auction. In
addition to many smaller contributions, the club has received two large gifts of artwork
from Dennis Domchek, vice president of administration, and Doris Schattschneider, professor
emeritus of mathematics at Moravian College. In addition the club has received several
monetary contributions, and all the proceeds will be donated to the hurricane victims
in the Gulf Coast region.
Schattschneider’s donation includes reproduction prints of several Degas pieces.
At auction will be oil paintings by alumni and several pieces by art faculty member Jan
Crooker. One of the Crooker works is a print of her oil painting “Pink Lemonade.”
Prior to the auction, advanced drawing and painting students taking independent studies
will open their studios to the public from 4:00 until 5:30 p.m. to display their work.
