Bethlehem, Pa., April 26, 2006— Kathryn
Foster, Whitehall, Pa., a senior in the nursing program at Moravian College, was awarded
the prestigious Barbara Stratton Scholarship on Tuesday, April 25 during the Spring
Annual Dinner, sponsored by the Pennsylvania League for Nursing District 2 . The dinner
was co-sponsored by several professional Nursing organizations, including the Upsilon
Alpha chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, the new Moravian College national nursing honor society.
On Friday, October 13, 2006, Foster will be
presented with the Nightingale Award. Ceremonies are planned for the Nightingale Award
Gala in Harrisburg , Pa. The scholarship application process was extremely competitive
and more than 190 candidates filed for the award. Two awards are granted in the Bachelor
of Science in Nursing Degree category. Since 1990, the Nightingale Awards of Pennsylvania
program has granted awards to nursing students who have studied and intend to practice
in Pennsylvania, and who demonstrated “deep
levels of caring, compassion, community service, and academic achievement.”
On Sunday, April 30, at the Moravian College
awards program, Foster will be honored with the Priscilla Payne Hurd Prize in Nursing,
the highest award presented by the St. Luke’s School of Nursing at Moravian College. The nursing faculty selects the student
in recognition of the “best in class” in overall outcomes of academics, professionalism,
and involvement in campus programming, athletics, and community care.
