Bethlehem, Pa., May 17, 2006—The Moravian College Alumni Association will host
an exciting program of events, reunions, and entertainments for Alumni Weekend on Friday,
May 19 and Saturday, May 20 at the College. The weekend of events titled, “It’s
Yesterday Once More,” will include a parade on Main Street in Bethlehem and a veterans
reunion event honoring departing president Ervin J. Rokke, both of which are open to
the public.
The weekend festivities will begin on Friday at 3:45 p.m. with a
campus tour of the Main Street and Hurd Campuses, to be followed by a welcome back
reunion fest and reception at 6:00 p.m. in Johnston Hall. Dinner is planned for 7:00
p.m. while featuring a “Hats
Off to You” slide show. From 9:00 p.m. on, individual class reunions and parties
are an open option for all alumni.
Saturday, May 20 activities are: registration at 8:30 a.m. in the
Haupert Union Building followed by a continental breakfast buffet, the 50+ Club breakfast,
and tours of the Main Street campus. The day’s events will include the Alumni
Association Annual Meeting at 10:15 a.m., and the class reunion parade at 11:00 a.m.
Marchers will be accompanied by the MacKay Pipe Band, high school marching bands, greyhounds,
and classic cars wending their way from the Main Street Campus to the Church Street
Campus.
A Grand Reunion Luncheon and program honoring Dr. Ervin J. and Mrs.
Rokke will include president Rokke’s final “State of the College” address. The Alumni
Association will present honorary alumni status to the Rokkes and also will recognize
Claire Klatchak ’87, ’95 MBA with its Medallion of Merit.
The Moravian College Veterans Reunion to be held in the Prisclla Payne Hurd Academic
Complex Atrium, at 3:00 p.m., will pay a tribute to Dr. Rokke, a retired lieutenant general
from the United States Air Force. The committee invites all Moravian College veterans
to join them in saluting Dr. Rokke as he prepares to retire from Moravian.
The day’s events will continue with a presentation at 4:00 p.m. entitled, “Comenius — A
Man for Our Time,” by Dr. James Skalnik, Assistant Dean for Academic Advising at
the College. At 5:00 p.m. Franklin Hill Vineyards will offer a discussion on wine that
includes a wine tasting experience.
Alumni weekend festivities will conclude with a gala reception, dinners for individual
classes or clusters of classes and wrap-up with a lavish dessert offering and dancing
in the Haupert Union Building.
