Bethlehem, Pa., September 20, 2006—Moravian College will present
a special screening of the film, An Inconvenient Truth, on Wednesday, September
20 at 7 p.m. in Prosser Auditorium. A moderated forum titled Honest Talk about the Real Issue
of Global Warming will be opened to the audience following the documentary. The
program is sponsored by the Moravian College Environmental Coalition, Impact, Environmental
Studies Program, Multi-faith Council, Hillside residence advisors, Christian Fellowship,
and Departments of Religion, Biology, Economics and Business, and Political Science. The
event is free and open to the public.
The film, directed
by Davis Guggenheim, chronicles Al Gore’s campaign against global warming as he
travels to various cities. Gore presents several scientific studies and projections
to prove his case, and a comedic element is showed in a clip from the TV show Futurama. Guggenheim
also includes a brief descriptive biography of the former vice-president and his efforts
to combat global climate change.
Panelists for the
post-film discussion are six Moravian faculty members: Dr. Frank Kuserk, director of
the environmental studies program and professor of biology; Dr. Diane Husic, chair of
the department of biology and professor of biology; Dr. Sean Mulholland, assistant professor
of economics and business; Dr. John Reynolds, professor of political science; Dr. Hilde
Binford, assistant professor of music; and Dr. Donald St. John, professor of religion.
The Moravian College
Environmental Coalition is a student group dedicated to protecting and preserving the
environment both on campus and in the community. Throughout the year, it sponsors
recycling initiatives, tree plantings, and timely environmental speakers.
Prosser Auditorium
is located in the college’s Haupert Union Building, at the corner of Monocacy and
Locust Streets in Bethlehem.
