The H. Paty Eiffe Gallery in the Haupert Union Building, Moravian
College, is pleased to present works by two of our art department alumni, Katina Sossiadis
Bozikis and Jason Travers. The exhibition will run from October 3 to 26. A
reception for the artists will be held during Homecoming, on Saturday, October 14,
at 10:30 a.m.
Katina Sossiadis Bozikis graduated from Moravian
College in 1993. While at Moravian, Ms. Bozikis received the Daniel W. Tereshko Award
for Most Outstanding Art Student while completing her honors project, "Struggles and Triumphs: The Lives
of Three Women Artists”. As part of her honors project, Katina explored the
styles of three women artists; her paintings were featured in an exhibit in Payne Gallery. After
graduation, she received the MFA from the University of Pennsylvania, where she was awarded
the CGS teaching grant to instruct a college-level painting course.
Ms. Bozikis worked at the Guggenheim Museum for director Tom Krens.
She has studied film at New York University’s School of Continuing Education.
In addition, Ms. Bozikis has had the honor of training with acting/directing coach
Andrienne Weiss, who has participated in the careers of such actors as Lili Taylor
and Joan Cusack. She
co-wrote and co-directed a short film entitled “Lynn’s Wake” with her
sister, Koula Sossiadis. The film was shown in various film festivals, including
the Austin Film Festival and the International Women's Festival in France. She has also
co-written a feature entitled "Rites of Winter" with her sister
Koula. They have joined forces with director of photography, Anastos Michos. Mr.
Michos’ films include "Mona Lisa Smile," "The Forgotten," "Man
on the Moon," and many other films. Mr. Michos will direct the picture, and the
sisters will produce. They are working with a casting director to cast three other principal
roles. Also, she joined her sister in the production side of the film industry,
by working on “Far From Heaven” and “Analyze That”.
Recently, she returned to the Lehigh Valley, where she has started a film program at
The Baum School of Art in Allentown. She also is an adjunct professor of art at Lehigh
University and Northampton Community College.
Jason Travers graduated from Moravian College in
1994 and received his MFA in Painting from the University of Pennsylvania in 1998. He has taught
foundation courses as well as plein-air painting courses since joining Lehigh University’s
art and architecture department in 1999. He has also taught digital design at Kutztown
University since 2000. Travers was awarded Best of Show in the 2002 Northeast Biennial
for his painting, “Sojourn”. His solo exhibitions include “Recent
Works” at the David E. Rodale Gallery of the Baum School of Art in the summer of
2004 and “The Spirit of Myth” at the University of Scranton’s Hope
Horn Gallery in January 2005. He participated in the Bethlehem Steel Paint-Out
in October 2004 and the subsequent “Moment in Time” exhibition in Payne Gallery. Recently,
his work was part of “Some Serious Business: Art of the Lehigh Valley” at
NCC Fowler Family Center in August-September 2005.
