MU Spotlight 20/20

Amy Klotz

What is your role at the University and what is something many may not know about the work you do?

My role at the University is to perform monthly accounting tasks and oversee the accounts payable and purchasing processes. Something that many may not know about my position is that I also manage the University credit card program, and I am available to provide support for larger departmental purchasing projects. One project I completed over the summer was bidding out and replacing all of the copiers on campus.

My favorite spot on campus is...

My favorite spot on campus is the gym because my husband also has a membership to our gym, and it feels like we're going on mini dates during the week when we get to workout together! I also love that the gym overlooks Makuvek Field, so I get to watch various practices or games while I'm working out.

My favorite college tradition is...

My favorite college tradition is Play 4Kay week because I recently lost my aunt to a very long battle with breast cancer so this tradition has a special connection to my life. I'm thankful for the efforts to raise awareness and money for the fight against women's cancers.

My favorite thing to do when I am away from campus is...

My favorite thing to do when I am away from campus is travel because it fulfills my need for adventure, relaxation, and learning about new things and places.

What's your favorite color?

I like the color teal because it reminds me of the ocean and tropical places—my favorite places to travel to!

When I grow up, I want to be...

When I grow up, I want to be in a position where I am always learning and growing, because I like to learn and accomplish new things. I also want to always make sure I'm in a position where I am adding value and improving the lives of others in some way.

What is the best advice you have ever received?

The best advice I have ever received is to always tackle big obstacles or projects by breaking them down into really small parts. It's easy to get overwhelmed when trying to take on something big, but if you can outline little milestones and make steady small progress, the project will be done before you know it.

What is your favorite ice cream?

Cookie dough, because really you get two desserts in one—ice cream AND cookies!

I can never resist a good...

I can never resist a good book. I've been known to stay up all night reading because I can't put a book down.

What makes you happy?

Running. Anytime I'm stressed or upset a good run just makes everything better. And anytime I run when I'm not stressed or upset it just elevates my mood even more. I would say it doesn't just make me happy, but it keeps me sane!
