COMMENCEMENT
CONFERRING OF DEGREES
When Dean Weil rises, he will first request all bachelor degree candidates to rise to be presented for degrees. Following President Thomforde's statement of conferral, candidates will be seated again. Masters degree candidates will be presented next. Following the President's statement, candidates will be seated again. When Dean Weil rises, the first row will then stand and proceed to the stage ramp on the right, followed in order by remaining rows. Dr. Martha Reid will announce the names of candidates. The candidate whose name has just been announced will then cross the platform to shake hands with and receive his/her diploma from President Thomforde. At the other end of the platform a hood will be placed over the candidate's head, after which the candidate will return to his/her seat and immediately sit down. B.A. candidates will receive their degrees first, then B.Mus., B.S., M.B.A., M.Ed., M.S.H.R., and M.S.P.N. candidates. Some students will be receiving specific awards, which are listed in the program. At the appropriate time, those students will be asked to form a line on the east ramp in the order their names appear in the program. As each award recipient's name is called, the recipient will cross the platform to receive his/her award from President Thomforde, then return to his/her seat. Then all those who have received prizes and awards earlier will be asked to stand and be recognized in place.
INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR
Behavior which is not in keeping with the dignity of the occasion will result in the graduate receiving on stage a blank envelope. Recipients must then make an appointment to meet with Dr. Thomforde in his office the week following Commencement.
RECESSIONAL
At the conclusion of the exercises, the academic procession, under the direction of Dr. Libby, will leave the field and return to the ARC. The platform party will leave first, followed by the faculty, then the graduates.
RECEPTION
Immediately following Commencement, refreshments will be served to all participants, their families and friends on the 1742 circle between the HUB and Reeves Library, or, in the event of rain, at various locations in the HUB and/or PPHAC. |
