BETHLEHEM, PA --- Susquehanna University fell out of the Landmark Conference baseball playoffs with a 5–2 loss to Juniata College at Moravian College’s Gillespie Field on May 7.

No. 3–seeded Susquehanna (21–19 overall) lost an earlier game on May 7 in this double-elimination tournament, and now, its season is complete. Juniata (14–24 overall) won one of two games on May 7 to stay alive.

The fourth-seeded Eagles will now play the loser of the No. 1–seeded Moravian (24–13 overall) and No. 2–seeded The Catholic University of America (22–16 overall) game in another elimination contest. Both of those games are scheduled for Saturday, May 8.

Susquehanna and Juniata were tied in their May 7 game, 2–2, entering the top of the ninth inning, but the Crusaders gave up three unearned runs in that frame for the final margin.

A two-out throwing error kept the ninth going for Juniata, which capitalized with a two-run double to right centerfield by senior shortstop Andrew Kriss for the go-ahead runs.

Kriss then advanced to third base on another throwing error and scored on a wild pitch. He finished the game 2-for-5.

Sophomore Matt Regan earned the win, pitching a complete-game gem and allowing just one earned run on eight hits and four walks while striking out a game-high 11 batters.

Junior Keith Needham took the tough loss despite 8 2/3 solid innings. Needham was charged with four runs (one earned) on eights and four walks while striking out four batters.

Senior Ben Leonard got the final Eagle out but not before allowing the Kriss double during his first at bat against.

Juniata’s senior catcher Greg Hoffman batted 3-for-3 with a walk.

Susquehanna’s junior infielder Justin Portzline batted 2-for-3 with a walk, a hit batsman, two stolen bases and two runs scored.

The Crusaders’ senior infielder Zack Brigman and freshman outfielder Corey Stirmer both went 2-for-4 with a double. Brigman also walked, and Stirmer stole a base.
