            BETHLEHEM, PA --- Second seed The University of Scranton rallied for three runs in the final three innings to post a 6-4 win over fourth seeded Susquehanna University in the first elimination game of the 2011 Landmark Conference Championship Tournament hosted by Moravian College at Gillespie Field on Sunday.
            The Royals advance to the second elimination game at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday and will take on the loser of the winner’s bracket game between the host and top seeded Greyhounds and third seed The Catholic University of America.
            The Crusaders jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.  Senior second baseman Justin Portzline (Selinsgrove, PA/Selinsgrove Area HS) connected on a one-out double to left center field, and junior first baseman Ethan Rieker (Lancaster, PA/Manheim Township HS) followed with an RBI single.
            Freshman outfielder Ben Anderson (Mechanicsburg, PA/Mechanicsburg HS) tripled down the right field with two outs for Susquehanna in the top of the second inning, but he would be stranded there.
            Scranton would score twice in the bottom of the third to take a 2-1 lead.  Senior catcher Chris Velazquez (Pomona, NY/Albertus Magnus HS) led off with a single, and he ended up at second on an error in the outfield.  Velazquez would score on a throwing error on a ball hit by junior second baseman Matt Rayha (Willow Street, PA/Penn Manor HS), and Rayha put the Royals in front when he scored on an RBI sacrifice fly by senior outfielder Chris Stallone (South Plainfield, NJ/South Plainfield HS).
            The Crusaders threatened in the top of the fourth with singles by sophomore outfielder Dan Wing (West Chester, PA/Unionville HS) and freshman catcher Nick Testo (Mount Airy, MD/Avalon HS) but Susquehanna would leave them on base.
            The Royals extended their lead to 3-1 with a run in the bottom half of the fourth.  Senior catcher Jeff Manahan (Morris Plains, NJ/Morristown HS) drew a walk to start the inning, and he moved to third on a single from senior outfielder Jason Lane (Moosic, PA/Riverside HS).  Sophomore outfielder Michael Gaeta (Cranford, NJ/Cranford HS) then connected on an RBI sacrifice fly to score Manahan.
            Susquehanna tied the contest at 3-3 in the top of the fifth when Portzline led off with a single and Rieker connected on a two-run homer to left field, Rieker’s sixth homer of the season.
            The Crusaders moved back in front, 4-3, in the top of the seventh inning when Rieker led off with a solo homer to center field, his second home run of the game and seventh of the year.
            Scranton tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom half of the seventh when sophomore shortstop Tim LeCompte (Philadelphia, PA/Roman Catholic HS) connected on a solo homer to left field, his first of the season.
            Anderson connected on a one-out double for Susquehanna in the top of the eighth and freshman outfielder Tyler Raubenstine (Elizabethtown, PA/Upper Dauphin HS) reached on an error.  Anderson would get to third but would be left there.
            The Royals retook the lead. 6-4, with a pair of runs in the bottom of the eighth inning.  Manahan reached second on an error to lead off the inning, and he moved to third on a single from senior first baseman David Giglio (Wallingford, CT/Xavier HS).  After a pitching change, Lane hit an RBI single through the right side to score Manahan.  Senior Joe Amicucci (Pomona, NY/Albertus Magnus HS) came in to pinch run for Giglio, and after a double steal, Gaeta connected on an RBI sacrifice fly to score Amicucci
            Susquehanna had a 13-7 advantage in hits with Rieker going three-for-five with four RBIs, two runs and two homers.  Wing was also three-for-five while Anderson went three-for-four and Portzline was two-for-three with a pair of runs.  Lane led the Royals at the plate with a three-for-four performance.
            Sophomore Matt Mosko (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough HS) earned the win in relief for Scranton, striking out two batters in 1 2/3 innings.  Sophomore Robert Della Polla (Havertown, PA/St. Joseph’s Prep HS) started for the Royals and allowed four runs on 13 hits and a walk while striking out eight batters in 7 1/3 innings.
            Sophomore Matt Boyd (Camp Hill, PA/Camp Hill HS) took the loss for Susquehanna after giving up six runs, just three earned, on six hits and two walks to go with eight strikeouts in seven-plus innings of action.
