FIVE HOUNDS NAMED COMMONWEALTH WOMEN'S SOCCER ALL-STARS;
BUSCHTA TABBED COMMONWEALTH CO-ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
ANNVILLE, PA --- Senior goalie Becky Roe (Worcester, NY/Worcester Central HS),
junior midfielder Stevie Ochse (Bethlehem/Saucon Valley HS) and freshman defender Jackie
Buschta (Whitehall/Allentown Central Catholic HS) of the Moravian College women's soccer
Team have been named to the Commonwealth Conference All-Star First Team. Buschta
was named the Commonwealth Conference Co-Rookie of the Year while senior forward Becky
Matijasich (Alpharetta, GA/Wilson West Lawn {PA} HS) and freshman midfielder Justina
Bria (Warminster/William Tennent HS) were honored on the Commonwealth Conference All-Star
Second Team.
The Greyhounds posted the best season in school history this fall with Moravian
winning a school record 15 wins in 19 matches. The squad, which also scored a school
record 59 goals this season, also made the postseason for the first time in the seven-year
history of the program. Moravian was 6-1 in the Commonwealth Conference regular season,
tying for first place and was the second seed in the playoffs.
Roe, a four-year starter, was a key ingredient for the Greyhounds. She started 11
matches and played a total of 1,051 minutes with a 10-2 record, a 0.94 goals-against average,
44 saves and three shutouts. Roe completed her career with a 39-21-1 record, 21 shutouts
and an 1.46 goals against average.
Ochse, who was a first team all-star last season and a second team honoree as a freshman,
tied for second on the squad in scoring this season with 21 points. She tallied seven
goals and seven assists this fall. Ochse and Buschta each scored four game-winning
goals this season.
Buschta tied Ochse in scoring with 21 points on nine goals and three assists. Defensively,
Buschta helped the Greyhounds post nine shutouts this season and allow just 0.93 goals
per match.
Matijasich, a former Commonwealth Rookie of the Year, led the Greyhounds in scoring this
season with 25 points on ten goals and five assists. Matijasich completed her career
with 23 goals and 17 assists for 63 points, second in school history. She also ranked
second in goals scored and is one of only two players in school history to tally double-digits
in goals scored in more than one season. Carli Miller, the school record holder
in points, was the other player.
Bria helped control the offense and defense for the Greyhounds this season. She
also scored 12 points on four goals and four assists.
