WOLFSBERGER NAMED FIRST TEAM ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN
BETHLEHEM, PA --- Junior Heidi Wolfsberger (Moosic/Riverside HS) has been named
to the Verizon/CoSIDA College Division Academic All-American® Fall/Winter At-Large
First Team, announced today by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA)
Thursday.
The Fall/Winter At-Large program represents athletes competing in cross country, fencing,
field hockey, gymnastics, ice hockey, rifle, soccer, swimming, water polo and wrestling. College
Division District II consists of all non-NCAA Division I colleges and universities in New
Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.
To be nominated for the Verizon Academic All-American program, a student-athlete must
be at least a sophomore with a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average and a starter or significant
reserve on his or her team.
Wolfsberger led the Greyhounds to a fifth place finish in the 2000 NCAA Division III Cross
Country Championships with a runner-up finish in the race. She won the MAC Championship
race the past two years and has helped Moravian extend its MAC Championship streak to eight
straight.
Wolfsberger is currently a six-time All-American, twice in cross country and four times
in track & field. She won the 2001 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field
National Championship in the 1,500 meters and has placed second in the nation twice in
the same event. Wolfsberger, who is qualified for the 2001 NCAA Division III Outdoor
Track & Field National Championships in the 1,500 meters, the 3,000 meters and the
5,000 meters, has won a total of 14 MAC Individual Championships (12 in track & field). Wolfsberger,
who has won six career cross country meets, is a five-time member of the MAC Academic Honor
Roll.
Wolfsberger is the 14th Moravian student-athlete and fourth women's cross country & field
student-athlete to be named to the Verizon Academic All-America® Teams. There have
been a total of 18 Academic All-Americans at Moravian including 13 over the past eight
years.
