POCHRON LEADS THREE GREYHOUNDS AS COMMONWEALTH ALL-STARS

ANNVILLE, PA --- Senior Joe Pochron (Allentown/Salisbury HS) was named to the Commonwealth Conference All-Star First Team as a pitcher and the Second Team as an outfielder to lead the three selections from the Moravian College baseball team announced Tuesday.  Senior shortstop Mike Gill (Lebanon, NJ/North Hunterdon HS) and sophomore utility player Jeff Meila (Bethlehem/Bethlehem Catholic HS) were named to the All-Star Second Team.

The Commonwealth Conference coaches at their annual spring meeting selected the team.

Pochron helped guide the Greyhounds to a 14-19 record this season with a team best earned run average of 2.18.  He was 4-4 in nine appearances with 47 strikeouts and 40 walks in a team high 53 2/3 innings pitched.  At the plate, Pochron hit .284 with 29 hits in 102 at-bats.  He added 15 runs scored, 10 RBIs and eight doubles.

Pochron completed his career with 120 hits, the third highest total in school history, in 122 games and a .318 batting average.  He also had had a 4.46 career ERA with six wins and 103 strikeouts in 129 innings of action.

Gill led the Moravian offense this past spring with a school-record tying 41 hits.  He hit .394 for the season (41 of 104) with team highs of 25 RBIs, 27 runs scored, nine doubles and ten stolen bases.  Gill added 21 walks and one homerun this year.  He completed his career as the fifth Moravian player to reach the 100-hit plateau with 107 hits in 127 games.  Gill had a .293 career batting average with 30 stolen bases, 207 putouts and 338 assists.

Meila played in the outfield, behind the plate, at first base and as a designated hitter this season.  He hit .303 this spring with 33 hits in 109 at-bats with a team leading three homeruns.  Meila added 20 RBIs, 10 runs scored, 11 walks and four doubles.
