SEVEN NAMED MORAVIAN STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
BETHLEHEM, PA --- A total of seven Moravian College student-athletes have been named as
the Moravian Student-Athletes of the Week after outstanding performances in their sports
last week. Four of the selected student-athletes are women while three are men.
Junior middle distance runner Kim Jaick (Coopersburg/Southern Lehigh HS) was selected
after setting two meet records at the 2nd Annual Dick DeShriver Invitational at East Stroudsburg
University of Pennsylvania on Sunday. Jaick won the 1,000 meters in a record time
of 3:08.07 and she also win the 3,000 meters in another meet record time of 10:23.17.
Freshman Christina Scherwin (Denmark) won two events at the 2nd Annual Greyhound
Field Challenge on Friday night and qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field
National Championships in just her second competition with the Greyhounds. Scherwin
qualified provisionally for nationals with a winning toss in the shot put of 12.96 meters. She
also captured first in the long jump with a leap of 5.00 meters.
Junior middle distance runner Heidi Wolfsberger (Moosic/Riverside HS) joined Jaick
by setting two meet records at the Dick DeShriver Invitational and she provisionally qualified
for her third event at the national championships as well. Wolfsberger won the 800
meters in a provisional qualifying time and meet record of 2:15.99. Wolfsberger was
also part of the distance medley relay team that set the meet record of 12:21.09.
Sophomore guard Tara Wozniak (Roseland, NJ/West Essex Regional HS) was named the
Commonwealth Conference Women's Player of the Week and averaged 25.0 points and 7.0 rebounds
per game in a 1-1 week for the Greyhounds (9-11). Wozniak netted a career high 30
points in a 78-75 loss to Susquehanna. Her three-pointer at the buzzer rimed in and
out and would have tied the score. Wozniak was 11 of 17 from the floor and two of
three behind the three-point line in the game and she was six of eight from the foul line. She
added eight rebounds, three assists and three blocked shots. In the Greyhounds, 64-47
win at Wilkes, Wozniak scored 20 points on 5 of 12 shooting (one of two on treys) from
the floor and nine of 15 from the foul line. She also had six rebounds and two steals. For
the week, Wozniak was 16 of 39 from the floor (41.0 %), three of five on three-pointers
(60.0 %) and 15-20 from the foul line (75.0 %).
Sophomore guard Kevin Hall (Mountain Top/Pocono Mountain HS) was also named the
Commonwealth Conference Men's Player of the Week and had the best week of his career as
he led Moravian (7-13) to a 3-0 week. In a 95-55 win over Susquehanna, Hall tied
his career high with 21 points on 7 of 13 shooting, 5 of 9 three pointers and 2 of 2 free
throws. He added two rebounds and a steal in 18 minutes. In Moravian's 89-81
victory at Delaware Valley, Hall set his career high with 25 points on 10 of 16 shooting,
4 of 7 three-pointers. He also had a career best six rebounds in the game to go along
with two assists and three steals in 32 minutes. In the Greyhounds 104-96 win over
Wilkes, Hall tossed in 24 points on 7 of 13 shooting, 4 of 6 three-pointers and 6 of 7
from the foul line. He also had four rebounds and two assists in 32 minutes. For
the week, Hall averaged 23.3 points and 4.0 rebounds while playing 27.3 minutes per game. He
was 24 of 42 from the floor (57.1 %), 14 of 22 behind the three-point line (63.6 %) and
9 of 12 (75.0 %) from the free throw line. He added 12 rebounds, four assists and
four steals.
Senior guard David Jordan (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro HS) helped the
Greyhounds (7-13) to a 3-0 record last week and became the 16th player in school history
to surpass 1,000 points in a career. Jordan averaged 19.0 points and 7.3 rebounds
per game while playing 30 minutes a contest. He had 13 points, seven rebounds and
three assists in a 95-55 win versus Susquehanna. Jordan then had 16 points and a
team high nine rebounds in an 89-81 victory at Delaware Valley College. He finished
the week with a 28-point performance in Moravian's 104-96 win versus Wilkes. He hit
a three-pointer, one of seven in the game, with 2:37 remaining to break the 1,000-point
plateau and give the Greyhounds an 85-80 lead. For the week, Jordan was 18 of 39
(46.2 %), 12 of 26 on three-pointers (46.2 %) and 9 of 10 from the foul line with 22 rebounds,
five assists and four steals. Jordan needs just four three-pointers in his final
four games to break the Moravian College record of 143.
Senior jumper Anthony Rediger (Sellersville/Pennridge HS) captured a pair of first
place finishes in the 2nd Annual Greyhound Field Challenge. Rediger was first in
the high jump at six feet, two inches and he won the triple jump with a distance of 13.08
meters. Rediger also placed second in the long jump at 6.48 meters. At the
Dick DeShriver Invitational, Rediger finished fourth in the triple jump at 42 feet.
