GREYHOUNDS RANKED 2ND IN CROSS COUNTRY PRESEASON POLL
BETHLEHEM, PA --- The 2001 edition of the Moravian College women's cross country team
has won its first two invitationals of the season and has now been ranked second in the
nation in the NCAA Division III Preseason Poll released by AppleRaceberryJam.com Tuesday.
Moravian, which placed fifth at the 2000 NCAA Division III National Championships, received
166 total points and one first place vote. Middlebury (VT) College, the defending
national championship, has been selected first in the preseason poll with 173 points and
six first place votes. Moravian will be traveling to Middlebury for a meet this Saturday,
September 15th.
The Greyhounds are being led by the senior class this season and have had five runners
place in the top ten at each race this year. Senior Heidi Wolfsberger (Moosic,
PA/Riverside HS), who placed second in last year's national championship race, won
the Kutztown Invitational on September 1st and placed third at the Lehigh Valley Championships
this year. Senior Kim Jaick (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh HS) won the Lehigh
Valley Championships last Friday, September 7th and she was fourth at the Kutztown race.
Senior Emily Shertzer (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin HS) was fifth at Kutztown
and sixth at the Lehigh Valley Championships while senior Erin Boyle (Philadelphia,
PA/Nazareth Academy) was sixth and seventh at the two races. Freshman Chelsea
Mullins (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame HS) has been Moravian's fifth runner this season,
placing eighth at Kutztown and tenth at the Lehigh Valley Championships.
