FOUR NAMED MORAVIAN ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
BETHLEHEM, PA --- Senior Katie Copf (Allentown, PA/Salisbury HS) and junior Jenn
Genevese (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall HS) from the women's tennis team and juniors John
Cupples (Allentown, PA/Allentown Central Catholic HS) and Josh Fick (Emmaus, PA/Emmaus
HS) from the football squad have been named the Moravian College Student-Athletes
of the Week for their performances last week.
Copf and Genevese have led the Greyhounds to a 9-0 start this season and a 6-0 record
in the Middle Atlantic Conference Commonwealth. Moravian has won the MAC Commonwealth
regular season title for the fifth time in eight years and will host a playoff match on
Wednesday, October 10th. Copf had a 2-1 record at fourth singles last
week and she was 3-0 at second doubles with partner senior Lacey Leverberg (East Stroudsburg,
PA/Stroudsburg HS). Genevese had a perfect week with a 3-0 slate at second singles
and a 3-0 mark at first doubles with senior Corinne Kleinsmith (Shillington, PA/Governor
Mifflin HS).
Cupples, a linebacker, was all over the field for the Moravian defense, making a team
high 15 tackles with four stops behind the line of scrimmage with a half sack in the Greyhounds
34-20 victory over Lebanon Valley College. Moravian's defense forced the Flying Dutchmen
into four turnovers in the game while limiting Lebanon Valley to just 37 yards on the ground
in 43 attempts. Cupples was named to the MAC Honor Roll for his performance.
Fick, a tailback, made the first start of his career a memorable one as he gained 125
yards on 19 carries with two touchdowns in the first 6:27 of the game. Fick, whose
rushing total is the 18th highest single game in Moravian history, scored on a three-yard
touchdown run on Moravian's first play. He gained all 54 yards on the next drive
with runs of 52, one and one yards for the touchdown. Fick, who was also named to
the MAC Honor Roll, also grabbed three passes for 45 yards in the victory.
