THREE GREYHOUNDS NAMED COMMONWEALTH VOLLEYBALL ALL-STARS;
ZIPF NAMED PLAYER OF THE YEAR; BAUDER TABBED COACH OF THE YEAR
ANNVILLE, PA --- Moravian College sophomore outside hitter Kim Zipf (Wyomissing, PA/Holy
Name HS) was named to the Commonwealth Conference Women's Volleyball All-Star First
Team announced Thursday and she was named the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Year
to lead three Greyhounds selected as All-Stars by the conference.
Sophomore setter Amy Lawrence (Gettysburg, PA/Delone Catholic HS) was also named
to the Commonwealth Conference All-Star First Team while sophomore middle hitter Shannon
McNeil (Reading, PA/Reading Central Catholic HS) was named to the Commonwealth Conference
All-Star Second Team. Moravian head coach Shelley Bauder was named the Commonwealth
Conference Coach of the Year.
Bauder and the three All-Stars led the Greyhounds to a 25-9 record this season, the sixth
straight 20-plus win season by Moravian, the squad's sixth consecutive berth in the Commonwealth
Conference Championship match and the school's first-ever Eastern College Athletic Conference
Championship appearance where the top seeded Greyhounds reached the finals before having
its season ended. Bauder has been named Conference Coach of the Year for the fourth
time in the last six years.
Zipf, who was named to 2001 American Volleyball Coaches Association All-Mid-Atlantic Region
Team on Wednesday, led Moravian this fall with 4.12 kills per game and a .339 hitting percentage,
which both ranked in the top three of the Commonwealth Conference. Zipf had 445 total
kills with 428 digs, 36 service aces and 17 blocks for the Greyhounds. She will head
into her junior season, needing just 171 kills and 133 digs to become the fourth player
in school history to reach 1,000 career kills and 1,000 career digs. Zipf, who was
named to All-Tournament Teams at three tournaments this season, will be the third player
to have 1,000 in each category.
Lawrence, was also named to the AVCA All-Mid-Atlantic Region Team this year, ran the Moravian
offense with 10.53 assists per game. She had a total of 1,295 assists to go along
with 366 digs, 94 kills, 66 service aces and 20 blocks. Lawrence, who is being honored
by the Commonwealth Conference for the first time in her career, already has 2,249 assists
and 125 service aces and has a chance to break the school record in each category. Lawrence
earned a spot on four All-Tournament Teams this season. She and Zipf were also each
named the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week once this year.
McNeil was third on the Greyhound squad this season with 295 kills and she led Moravian
with 82 blocks. McNeil, who is being honored by the Commonwealth Conference for the
first time, also had 48 digs this season with a .267 hitting percentage.
