SEVEN GREYHOUNDS NAMED STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

BETHLEHEM, PA --- Seniors Heidi Wolfsberger (Moosic, PA/Riverside HS), Emily Shertzer (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin HS) and Kim Jaick (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh HS) from the women's cross country team, junior Tara Wozniak (Roseland, NJ/West Essex Regional HS) of the women's basketball squad, sophomore John Panikiewsky (Carteret, NJ/Carteret HS) from the football team and freshman Brandon Zaleski (Hackettstown, NJ/ Hackettstown HS) and junior Ken Greb (Mount Holly, NJ/Rancocas Valley Regional HS) from the men's basketball squad have been named the Moravian College Student-Athletes of the Week for their performances last week.

Wolfsberger took second placed for the second straight year to lead the Moravian College women's cross country team to a third place finish at the 2001 NCAA Division III National Championships hosted by Augustana College.  Middlebury (VT) College won the National Championship for the second straight year with a score of 98 points while Williams (MA) College was second with 166 points and Moravian was third at 183 points.

Wolfsberger becomes an All-American for the third time in cross country and the tenth time in her career, completing the 5,000-meter course at Highland Springs Golf Course in Rock Island, IL with a time of 17:12.  Wolfsberger was second of the 213 runners in the race, trailing only national champion Dana Boyle of the University of Puget Sound, who won the race with a time of 16:46.  Moravian, which entered the NCAA Championships ranked third in the nation, had two other runners earn All-American status by finishing in the top 35.

Shertzer was 27th in the race with a time of 17:47 while Jaick placed 32nd in 17:52.  Shertzer earned her second All-American honor in cross country while this was Jaick's first cross country All-American accolade.  This year marked the first time that Moravian had three All-Americans in the same year.

Wozniak, a guard, led the Greyhounds to the consolation championship of the 2001 Southwestern (TX) University Tournament.  Wozniak opened the season with 25 points and six rebounds in a 84-72 loss to McMurry (TX) University and she added 12 points and a team high 11 rebounds in a 60-55 victory over Southwestern.  Wozniak was named to the All-Tournament Team for her performance.

Panikiewsky, a safety, had nine tackles with seven solo stops to lead the Moravian defense that allowed just 174 yards on 40 plays to the Devils and only 30 yards through the air.  Panikiewsky, was also named the Middle Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts.  Moravian finished the season with a 5-5 record after a 27-0 victory over FDU-Madison last weekend.  Panikiewsky added three tackles for loss with half a sack and one pass break-up in the game.

Zaleski, a forward, led the Greyhounds to a pair of victories in his first two collegiate games and he was named the Most Valuable Player of the 20th Annual Scotty Wood Tournament hosted by Muhlenberg College.  In Moravian's season-opening 94-89 overtime victory over Baldwin-Wallace College, Zaleski had13 points, six rebounds and three assists in 20 minutes.  In the championship game against Muhlenberg, Moravian never trailed and Zaleski tossed in 22 points with five rebounds.  Zaleski shot .714 for the weekend (15 of 21) and he was five of six at the foul line (.833).

Greb, a forward, was also named to the All-Tournament Team at the Scotty Wood Tournament.  He scored a career high 21 points with seven rebounds in the victory over Baldwin-Wallace including the game-tying basketball at the end of regulation.  Greb added 16 points and three rebounds in the championship game against Muhlenberg.
