PENCE & ZAGORSKI NAMED TO FOOTBALL GAZETTE
ALL-SOUTH REGION THIRD TEAM
BETHLEHEM, PA --- Junior safety Jarrod Pence (Livingston, NJ/Livingston HS) and
junior offensive lineman Josh Zagorski (Morris Plains, NJ/Parsippany Hills HS) of
the Moravian College football team have been named to the 2001 Don Hansen's National
Weekly Football Gazette All-South Region Third Team announced Friday. The selection
is regarded as a Regional All-America honor.
The pair led the Greyhounds to a 5-5 overall record this season with victories in the
squad's last two games. Moravian has a 93-59-1 record under head coach Scot Dapp,
who has completed his 15th year at the school, and Dapp has had 12 winning seasons
during his tenure.
Pence and Zagorski were two of 75 players selected to the three teams in
the South Region that had over 150 players nominated for All-Region accolades. The
Middle Atlantic Conference had 18 players selected to the All-Region Teams with Widener
University wide receiver Michael Coleman named the South Region Offensive Player
of the Year and King's College defensive lineman Steven Wilson< tabbed as the South
Region Defensive Player of the Year.
Pence, who moved to cornerback this season after two years at safety, was a MAC
First Team All-Star this season. Pence led Moravian and the MAC with 36 pass
break-ups this season with a team high five interceptions. Pence also added 51 tackles
with 33 solo stops, two tackles for loss and one forced fumble. Pence had
seven tackles, a forced fumble and a school record tying three interceptions in Moravian's
17-7 victory over rival Muhlenberg College.
Zagorski, a starter at center, has helped the Greyhound offense average 351.1 yards
per game including 180.4 yards per contest on the ground. Zagorski, who was
a MAC Second Team All-Star this Fall, and the rest of the Moravian front have allowed the
Moravian quarterbacks to be sacked just 17 times this season and three different running
backs to gain over 100-yards in a game this season.
