MORAVIAN NAMES STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
BETHLEHEM, PA --- Senior Rachel Mowrey (Hellertown, PA/Saucon Valley HS) and sophomore Jessica
Esposito (Madison, NJ/Madison HS) from the softball team, seniors Erin Boyle (Philadelphia,
PA/Nazareth Academy HS) and Heidi Wolfsberger (Moosic, PA/Riverside HS), junior Jennifer
Wagner (Riegelsville, PA/Wilson HS)< and freshman Heather McGarvie (Medford, NJ/Shawnee
HS) from the women's indoor track & field squad and junior Bob Frey (Hellertown,
PA/Saucon Valley HS) from the baseball team have been named the Moravian College
Student-Athletes of the Week for their performances last week.
Mowrey, a pitcher, and Esposito, an outfielder, led the Greyhound softball
squad to an 8-0 mark on the team's spring break trip with 4-0 record in Myrtle Beach, South
Carolina, and Virginia Beach, Virginia. Mowrey< posted a 4-0 mark on the trip
with a 1.08 earned runs average while tossing four complete games. Mowrey< pitched
26 innings and allowing 18 hits, six runs and four earned runs and she has 16 strikeouts
while walking none this season.
Esposito led Moravian at the plate where the Greyhounds are hitting .391 as a team
and averaging 8.4 runs and 11 hits per game. Esposito< is hitting .706 with
12 hits in 17 at-bats and she has added 11 RBIs, nine runs scored, two doubles, a triple
and a homerun, one of seven Moravian hit on the trip. Esposito< also has a
1.118 slugging percentage with 19 total bases on the year. Moravian will return to
action with four games at the Salisbury University Sea Gull Invitational in Salisbury,
Maryland this weekend.
Boyle, Wolfsberger, Wagner and McGarvie earned All-American honors
with a seventh place finish in the distance medley relay with a time of 12:16.46 at the
NCAA Division III National Championships hosted by Ohio Northern University in Mount Ada,
Ohio last weekend. It is the second straight year that Moravian's distance medley
relay team has received All-American accolades. The Greyhounds tied for 51st of 59
schools that scored points in the event.
Frey, a first baseman, led the baseball team to a 4-5 record at the Eastern Mennonite
Sarasota Spring Classic in Sarasota, Florida, last week. Frey had the Greyhounds'
top batting average of the week at .593 with 16 hits in 27 at-bats. He had 17 RBIs,
11 runs scored, three doubles, nine walks and four homeruns. Frey has now
hit 12 homers in his Moravian career, one shy of the school record of 13 set by Jud
Frank from 1991-1994. The Greyhounds will return to action on Thursday, March
14th in a non-conference home game with Ursinus College beginning at 3:00 p.m.
