SIX GREYHOUNDS NAMED TO NFHCA DIVISION III NATIONAL ACADEMIC SQUAD
BETHLEHEM, PA --- Senior Elissa Gerstel (Warminster, PA/William Tennent HS) and Andrea
Rafferty (Hellertown, PA/Saucon Valley HS), sophomores Rachel Crocker (Bethlehem,
PA/Northampton HS) and Rebecca Kipp (Bethlehem, PA/Saucon Valley HS) and freshmen Kelly
Boone (Reading, PA/Muhlenberg HS) and Amy Kranchalk (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point
Pleasant Boro HS) of the Moravian College field hockey team have been named to the
2001 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Academic Squad announced
Tuesday.
Student-athletes selected to the NFHCA National Academic Squad have attained a minimum
overall GPA of 3.30 through the first semester of the 2001-02 academic year and are starters
or key reserves on their respective teams.
Gerstel, a forward, led Moravian in scoring this past season with eight goals and
two assists for 18 points. She completed her career with 30 goals and eight assists
for 68 points, the third highest career total in school history. Kipp, also
a forward, scored five goals in her first season with the Greyhounds.
Rafferty, a defender, added one assist this past fall and also had one goal in
her career. Crocker, a midfielder, combined with Rafferty, Boone,
a midfielder, and Kranchalk, a defender and goalie, to help the Greyhounds allow
2.60 goals per game. Kranchalk, who won one of four starts in net, had a 4.75
goals against average while filling is as a goalie and she made 44 saves in 280 minutes.
Moravian finished the 2001 season with a 5-10 overall record and a 2-5 slate in the Commonwealth
Conference.
