FIVE GREYHOUNDS NAMED STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
BETHLEHEM, PA --- Seniors Emily Shertzer (Hummelstown, PA/Lower Dauphin HS) and Heidi
Wolfsberger (Moosic, PA/Riverside HS) from the women's indoor track and field team,
sophomore Tracie Shipman (Philadelphia, PA/Archbishop Ryan HS) of the women's
basketball squad and freshman Brandon Zaleski (Hackettstown, NJ/Hackettstown HS) and
sophomore Kevin Wyers (Hamilton Square, NJ/Notre Dame HS) from the men's basketball
team have been named the Moravian College Student-Athletes of the Week for their performances
last week.
Shertzer and Wolfsberger, both distance runners, earned victories at the
NCAA Division I Bucknell University Gulden Relays. Shertzer captured the 5,000
meters in a time of 18:11.38 while Wolfsberger won the 3,000 meters in 10:01.73,
34 seconds ahead of the next runners.
Shipman, a forward, led the Greyhounds on the court last week with averages of
11.3 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. Shipman had a team high 13 points and
she added 11 rebounds in a 78-61 loss to Delaware Valley College. She had eight points
and six rebounds in a 61-38 victory at Elizabethtown College and Shipman finished
the week with 13 points and five boards in a 68-61 loss to #11 Messiah College. Moravian
is currently 9-5 overall and 3-1 in the Commonwealth Conference.
Zaleski, a forward, led the men's basketball team with 19 points and seven rebounds
in a 106-82 loss to #12 Elizabethtown College last week and he scored a team high 16 points
in a 76-72 victory over Messiah College. Zaleski also had seven rebounds,
four assists and three blocked shots for the week. Moravian is currently 8-5 on the
season and 2-2 in the Commonwealth Conference.
Wyers, a guard, scored a career best 11 points in the game at Elizabethtown and
he added 11 points and a career high five rebounds in the Messiah contest. Wyers connected
on four three-pointers to help spark the Greyhounds to the come-from-behind win over Messiah.
