TRIO NAMED MORAVIAN STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

BETHLEHEM, PA --- Freshman Kirsten Rotzell (Bangor, PA/Bangor HS) of the Middle Atlantic Conference Champion women's indoor track & field team, junior Kelly McLean (Allentown, PA/Salisbury HS) from the women's basketball team and senior Kevin Bush (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg HS) of the men's indoor track & field squad have been named the Moravian College Student-Athletes of the week for their performances last week.

Rotzell, a jumper and sprinter, was named the Women's Most Outstanding Performer while winning the long jump and triple jump and leading Moravian to its seventh straight Middle Atlantic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championship.  The Greyhounds squad posted a team score of 147, 65 points ahead of second place Widener University.  Rotzell won the long jump with an Eastern College Athletic Conference qualifying leap of 5.29 meters (17 feet, 4 ¼ inches) and she captured the triple jump with an ECAC qualifying distance of 10.92 meters (35 feet, ten inches).  Rotzell, who was Moravian's third straight Most Outstanding Performer, placed sixth in the 55 meters with an ECAC qualifying time of 7.68 seconds. 

McLean, a forward, led Moravian to its first postseason appearance since the 1997-98 season as the Greyhounds fell to Messiah College, 66-56, in the Commonwealth Conference semifinals.  McLean had her second straight double-double in the game and her seventh of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds.  She was seven of 12 from the floor in the contest.

Bush, a sprinter, was named the Men's Most Outstanding Performer after winning the 200 and 400 meters in Middle Atlantic Conference record time and he helped the Greyhounds to a third place team finish at the 2002 MAC Indoor Track & Field Championships.  Widener University captured the men's championship with a score of 139.  Messiah College was second with 84 points while Moravian had a score of 68 for third place.  Bush, Moravian's first Most Outstanding Performer since CJ Brown in 1996, won the 200 meters in a MAC record time and ECAC qualifying time of 22.68 seconds and he captured the 400 meters with a MAC record time and Eastern College Athletic Conference qualifying time of 50.41 seconds.  Bush also ran the anchor leg of the 4x400-meter relay and helped the team capture the MAC title in a MAC record time of 3:28.28.  Bush joined freshman Scott Silvoy (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS), senior Josh Heebner (Lansdale, PA/North Penn HS) and junior George Wacker (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale HS) on the 4x400-meter relay squad.  In Bush's final event, he placed seventh in the 55 meters in 7.24 seconds after qualifying for the finals with a time of 6.67 seconds in the preliminaries.
