14 GREYHOUNDS TO COMPETE IN ECAC CHAMPIONSHIPS
BETHLEHEM, PA --- The Moravian College men's and women's indoor track & field teams
will be sending fourteen student-athletes, seven from each team, to the 2002 Eastern College
Athletic Conference Championships this weekend, March 1st and 2nd at Tufts University in
Medford, Massachusetts.
The Moravian women are coming off winning their seventh straight Middle Atlantic Conference
Championship last weekend while the men's squad finished third at the MAC Meet.
For the women's team, freshman jumper Kirsten Rotzell (Bangor, PA/Bangor HS) will
compete in the long jump and triple jump at the ECAC Championships. Rotzell,
who was voted the Women's Most Outstanding Performer at the MAC Championships, qualified
for the ECAC meet with a distance of 5.29 meters in the long jump and a leap of 11.34 meters
in the triple jump. Senior sprinter Steph Horne (Sinking Spring, PA/Wilson West
Lawn HS) will also compete in two events at the ECAC Championships with races in the
55-meter hurdles and the 200 meters. Horne set Moravian records in each event
at the MAC meet with a time of 8.70 seconds in the 55-meter hurdles and a time of 27.33
seconds in the 200 meters.
Senior Kim Jaick (Coopersburg, PA/Southern Lehigh HS) and freshman Megan Wise
(North Wales, PA/North Penn HS) will both compete in the 3,000 meters. Jaick qualified
for the ECAC meet with a time of 10:45.3 while Wise had a qualifying time of 10:53.2. Senior Erin
Boyle (Philadelphia, PA/Nazareth Academy HS) and junior Jen Wagner (Riegelsville,
PA/Wilson HS) will both be competing in the 1,500 meters. Boyle ran a qualifying
standard of 4:49.7 while Wagner was clocked at 4:59.92.
Freshman Heather McGarvie (Medford, NJ/Shawnee HS) will compete in the 800 meters
after qualifying for the ECAC Championships with a time of 2:22.37. McGarvie will
join with Boyle, Wagner and Wise to run the distance medley relay,
which qualified with a time of 12:48.58. The Greyhounds did have six other female
student-athletes qualify for the ECAC Championships but they will be out to rest injuries
as five of them are qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor National Championships at
Ohio Northern University on March 8th and 9th.
For the Moravian men, senior sprinter Kevin Bush (Stroudsburg, PA/Stroudsburg HS),
who was named the Men's Most Outstanding Performer at last weekends MAC Championships,
will compete in the 200-meter and 400-meter events. Bush qualified for the
two races with times of 22.68 seconds in the 200 meters and 49.98 in the 400 meters. Freshman
sprinter Scott Silvoy (Bethlehem, PA/ Bethlehem Catholic HS) will also compete in
the 200 meters after qualifying with a time of 22.96 seconds.
Bush and Silvoy will team up with senior Josh Heebner (Lansdale, PA/North
Penn HS) and junior George Wacker (Honesdale, PA/Honesdale HS) to compete
in the 4x400-meter relay. The quartet won the MAC Championship last weekend with
a MAC record time of 3:28.28. Heebner and Wacker will run in the
distance medley relay with sophomore Joe Grady (Nanticoke, PA/Nanticoke HS)< and
freshman Patrick Grogan (Nazareth, PA/Notre Dame HS) after qualifying with a time
of 10:41.17.
Sophomore Joe Moore (Andover, NJ/Newton HS) will be competing in the long jump
after winning the MAC title with a leap of 7.04 meters.
