FIVE NAMED FIRST MORAVIAN STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK FOR 2002-03

BETHLEHEM, PA --- Juniors Amy Lawrence (Gettysburg, PA/Delone Catholic HS) and Kim Zipf (Wyomissing, PA/Holy Name HS) from the women's volleyball team, junior Faye Zaninelli (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro HS) of the women's soccer squad, and sophomores Jim Feimster (Stroudsburg, PA/Pocono Mountain HS) and Nick Tarquinio (Point Pleasant, NJ/Point Pleasant Boro HS) have been named the Moravian College Student-Athletes of the Week for their performances last week during the first week of the 2002-03 season.

Lawrence, a setter, and Zipf, an outside hitter, led the Greyhound volleyball squad to a 2-1 record and a runner-up finish at the Franklin & Marshall College Scramble Tournament.  The duo was also named to the All-Tournament Team.  In the three matches, Lawrence averaged 12 assists per game and she contributed 29 digs, 17 kills and four service aces.  Zipf led Moravian in kills with 53 and in digs with 30 and she added four blocks.  The Greyhounds will return to action this weekend at the Gettysburg Battlefield Classic on Friday, September 6th and Saturday, September 7th.

Zaninelli, a midfielder, helped the Greyhounds to a 1-1 mark at the LPL Financial/University of Scranton Invitational to open the season.  She scored Moravian's lone goal in a 3-1 loss to #18 Western Connecticut State University in the tournament opener and Zaninelli then scored the game-winning goal in a 2-0 victory over Eastern College.  Moravian gets back to action on Saturday, September 7th in a non-conference home match with FDU-Florham beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Feimster and Tarquinio, both defenders, were named to the All-Tournament Team at the Drew University Fall Festival as the Greyhounds took third place with a 0-1-1 record.  Tarquinio scored Moravian's only goal of the tournament in a 2-1 overtime loss to #25 Drew in the first round.  The pair helped keep the ball out of the net in the second game as the Greyhounds played to a scoreless tie with The College of New Jersey.  Moravian will compete at the Muhlenberg College Kwik Goal Classic this weekend, taking on DeSales University on Friday, September 6th at 4:00 p.m. and the host Mules on Sunday, September 8th at 6:00 p.m.
