FOUR NAMED MORAVIAN STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
BETHLEHEM, PA --- Freshman Megan Collins (Dover, DE/Caesar Rodney HS) from the
women's soccer team, junior Lauren Castagna (Mt. Bethel, PA/Bangor HS) of the women's
tennis squad, senior Jennifer Wagner (Riegelsville, PA/Wilson HS) from the women's
cross country team and senior Ryan Sculley (Bethlehem, PA/Northampton HS) of the
men's soccer squad have been named the Moravian College Student-Athletes of the Week for
their performances last week.
Collins, a forward, helped the Greyhounds to a 2-0 record last week with goals
in a 3-0 victory over Haverford College and a 2-1 overtime win at rival Muhlenberg College. Collins' first
collegiate goal was the second of Moravian's three tallies in the victory over Haverford
as she scored on a breakaway just 50 seconds after the Greyhounds had taken a 1-0 lead. Collins,
who was named the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week for her performance, netted
the overtime goal in Moravian win at Muhlenberg, three minutes into the first overtime
session. Moravian, currently 3-2 on the season, return to action on Tuesday, September
17th in a home match with Alvernia College beginning at 4:00 p.m.
Castagna helped the women's tennis team to a 2-0 record last week as the team defeated
the University of Scranton, 6-3, and Kutztown University, 7-2. Castagna earned
a singles wins in both matches and she had two singles victories and a doubles win with
partner sophomore Jillian Iacovelli (Randolph, NJ/Randolph HS) at the Haverford
College Women's Invitational last weekend. The Greyhounds are 4-0 on the season and
have won 27 consecutive matches as the team travels to Elizabethtown College for a Middle
Atlantic Conference Commonwealth match on Tuesday, September 17th beginning at 3:30 p.m.
Wagner won the Mule/Falcon Classic hosted by Muhlenberg College and Cedar Crest
College last weekend and she led the Greyhounds to their second first place team finish
of the 2002 season. Wagner completed the 5,000-meter course in Allentown with
a time of 19:36. Moravian, which had a 36-point victory over Muhlenberg, returns
to action this Saturday, September 21st at the Elizabethtown Invitational.
Sculley, a goalie, posted his first shutout of the season as he led Moravian to
a 3-0 victory over Delaware Valley College in the Greyhounds only match last week. Sculley had
eight saves in the contest as Moravian improved to 3-1-1 on the year. Moravian is
3-1-1 on the season and will return to action on Saturday, September 21st in a 1:00 p.m.
Commonwealth Conference match versus Juniata College.
