PANIKIEWSKY NAMED MAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

ANNVILLE, PA --- Junior safety John Panikiewsky (Carteret, NJ/Cartert HS) of the Moravian College football team has been named the Middle Atlantic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance last week.

Panikiewsky helped the Moravian defense allow just six points and 287 yards of offense in a 23-6 victory over Susquehanna University in the Greyhounds final MAC game of the season. Panikiewsky had five tackles with one sack for a loss of ten yards and an interception, which he returned 27 yards to end the Crusaders first scoring threat of the game in the second quarter. Panikiewsky’s sack came on the final play of the first quarter and the interception was on the first play of the second quarter.

Moravian, now 7-2 on the season, has a six-game winning streak, its longest since a seven-game stretch that overlapped the 1995 & 1996 seasons, and the squad has clinched a .500 season, the 13th in head coach Scot Dapp’s 16-year career. Coach Dapp earned the 100th victory of his career on Saturday.

The Greyhounds will return to action in their final regular season game on Saturday, November 16th when the squad hosts rival Muhlenberg College for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff at Steel Field.
