ZIPF NAMED TO VERIZON ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT THIRD TEAM

BETHLEHEM, PA --- Junior outside hitter Kim Zipf (Wyomissing, PA/Holy Name HS) of the Moravian College women’s volleyball team has been named to the 2002 Verizon Academic All-District II College Division Women’s Volleyball Third Team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

To be eligible for Verizon Academic All-America® honors, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 grade-point average, be a sophomore, junior or senior and be a starter or significant reserve. The College Division is made up of all the NCAA Division II and III Schools in the nation as well as all NAIA schools. Student-athletes from NCAA Division I schools are named to the University Division Teams. District II is made up of schools from Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

A total of 20 student-athletes from the district made the Verizon Academic All-District Teams with Edinboro University leading the selections with three student-athletes honored. Zipf was one of two student-athletes from the Middle Atlantic Corporation honored.

Zipf is lead Moravian with 429 kills this fall and she has added a .308 hitting percentage, 365 digs, 19 blocks, 19 assists and 21 service aces. Zipf has also been named the Commonwealth Conference Player of the Week three times this season.

Zipf has helped the Greyhounds to a 25-9 record this season including a 5-2 mark in Commonwealth Conference action. Moravian reached the postseason for the seventh straight year, competing in the Commonwealth Conference Championship match for the seventh consecutive year, and the team was given the top seed in the 2002 Eastern College Athletic Conference South Championships that will be played this weekend at Carnegie Mellon University. The Greyhounds were also the top seed in last year's ECAC South Championships, where the squad finished as the runner-up.
