TRIO HONORED AS MORAVIAN STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

BETHLEHEM, PA --- Sophomore Kirsten Rotzell (Bangor, PA/Bangor HS) from the women’s indoor track and field team, senior Tara Wozniak (Roseland, NJ/West Essex Regional HS) of the women’s basketball squad and junior Joe Moore (Andover, NJ/ Newton HS) from the men’s indoor track and field team have been named the Moravian College Student-Athletes of the Week for their performances last week.

Rotzell set the Middle Atlantic Conference Indoor Championship records in both the long jump and triple jump to lead Moravian to its eighth consecutive MAC Indoor Championship in the 2003 Championship hosted by Susquehanna University. Rotzell jumped 5.67 meters (18 feet, 7 1/4 inches) in the long jump, which is an NCAA provisional qualifying distance, and beat the former MAC record of 5.58 meters. Rotzell had a distance of 11.34 meters (37 feet, 2 1/2 meters) in the triple jump, which was also an NCAA provisional qualifying distance, and bettered the old MAC mark of 11.22 meters. In the track events, Rotzell finished third in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.54 seconds, and she ran a time of 7.43 seconds in the preliminaries.

Wozniak, a guard, led the Greyhounds to a 1-1 week and a berth in the Commonwealth Conference Championship game while averaging 13.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game in the Commonwealth Conference Tournament. Wozniak started the week with 13 points and three rebounds in Moravian’s 53-51 victory versus Lebanon Valley College in the semifinals. Wozniak added 13 points and 11 rebounds in the Greyhounds’ 73-52 loss at Messiah College in the title game. Wozniak went eight-for-eight at the foul line in the loss to the Falcons. For the week, Wozniak shot 93.3 percent (14 of 15) at the foul line while averaging 28.5 minutes in each game. The Greyhounds are 20-7 on the season and await a berth in the 2003 ECAC South Tournament.

Moore was named the Most Outstanding performer at the 2003 MAC Indoor Championships, and he led the Greyhounds to a second place team finish after winning three gold medals. Moore captured first place in the 55-meter dash in a time of 6.65 seconds and he ran a 6.60-second race in the preliminaries. Moore also captured first in the 200-meter dash in 22.82 seconds, and he won the long jump with an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying distance of 7.18 meters (23 feet, 6 3/4 inches). Moore also ran on the 4x200-meter relay squad that was third in a time of 1:33.28 seconds.
