FOUR NAMED MORAVIAN STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
BETHLEHEM, PA --- Junior Janelle Brey (Allentown, PA/Dieruff HS) and
sophomore Stephanie Eddinger (Allentown, PA/Parkland HS) from the softball
team and seniors Jeff Meila (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS) and Luke
Bricker (Kutztown, PA/Kutztown HS) of the baseball squad have been named the Moravian
College Student-Athletes of the week for their performances last week.
Brey, a third baseman, and Eddinger, an outfielder,
helped the Greyhounds post a 3-0 record at the 2003 Atlantic vs. East Challenge hosted
by Virginia Wesleyan College in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Brey was 2-for-2 in Moravian's season opening 7-1 victory over Averett
(NC) University with a double, a run scored, and a walk. She went 3-for-3 in the Greyhounds’ 8-3
win versus Emory & Henry (VA) College with two RBIs, two runs scored, a triple and
a walk. Brey was held without a hit in Moravian's 4-3, eight-inning victory
over Chowan (NC) College but scored the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning
after starting at second base under the international tiebreaker rule. In the field, Brey handled
all 11 chances she had cleanly.
Eddinger was 2-for-2 with a pair of RBI doubles in the game versus Averett,
and she also scored a run in the contest. Eddinger added a 1-for-2 performance
with a run scored, a walk and a stolen base, in the Greyhounds’ win over Emory & Henry. Eddinger had
one at-bat in the game versus Chowan, and she made two putouts during the week.
The Greyhounds will return to action on Monday, March 10th in a non-conference game at
Christopher Newport University.
Meila, a catcher, and Bricker, a shortstop, helped
the Greyhounds open the 2003 season with a 2-1 record in a Commonwealth Conference series
with Juniata College played in Florida.
Meila was 1-for-3 in Moravian's 8-6 victory to start the season. He
had two RBIs and was hit by a pitch in the contest and the hit was the 100th of his career. Meila was
2-for-2 in the second game of the doubleheader, a 10-9 Moravian win, and he had an RBI,
a run scored and two walks in the game. In the final game of the series, Meila was
1-for-3 with a run scored and a walk. Meila had just one error to go along
with 14 putouts and one assist behind the plate.
Bricker, who returned to the Greyhound line-up after missing the 2002
season, was 1-for-2 with two RBIs, two sacrifices and a run scored in the first game against
Juniata. Bricker finished 2-for-3 in the second game with two RBIs, a
run scored and a walk. He finished the three-game series with an RBI, two sacrifices, a
run scored and a walk in the final game. Bricker has two errors in 15
chances in the field.
The Greyhounds return to action on Monday, March 10th with games against Central (IA)
College and Hiram (OH) College in the Gene Cusic Classic in Ft. Myers, Florida beginning
at 3:00 p.m.
