TRIO NAMED MORAVIAN STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
BETHLEHEM, PA --- Sophomore Leah Holmes (Clarks Green, PA/Abington Heights HS) from
the softball team, freshman Shannon Kelly (Southlake, TX/Carroll HS) of
the women’s lacrosse squad and freshman Mike Sofka (Westfield, NJ/Westfield
HS) from the baseball team have been named the Moravian College Student-Athletes
of the Week for their performances last week.
Holmes, a second baseman, helped the Greyhounds to a doubleheader sweep
of Haverford College in the team’s only action last week. Holmes was
4-for-7, a .571 average, in the twinbill with four RBIs, three runs scored, two doubles
and a triple. In the field, Holmes had eight putouts and three assists
in 11 chances. Moravian is 11-3 overall and will return to action on Tuesday, March 25th
in a non-conference doubleheader at Ursinus College beginning at 3:00 p.m.
Kelly, a midfielder, scored four of the Greyhounds’ six goals
in a 17-6 loss to Elizabethtown College in Middle Atlantic Conference action last week.
Moravian is 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the MAC in its first season of NCAA women’s lacrosse.
The Greyhounds will return to action on Monday, March 24th in a non-conference match with
Alvernia College at East Hills Middle School in Bethlehem at 4:00 p.m.
Sofka, a third baseman, had a pair of triples and two RBIs in three
games last week for the Greyhounds. Sofka had a two-RBI triple in a 6-5
loss to rival Muhlenberg College, and he added another triple in a 1-0 loss at Widener
University in Commonwealth Conference action. Sofka had three putouts,
four assists in the field last week. Moravian is 5-5 overall and 3-2 in the Commonwealth
Conference. The Greyhounds will close out a three-game series with Widener University on
Monday, March 24th in a 3:00 p.m. start in Bethlehem.
