BREY & HENNESSY HONORED AS COMMONWEALTH PLAYER & PITCHER OF THE WEEK
ANNVILLE, PA --- Junior third baseman Janelle Brey (Allentown, PA/Dieruff HS) and
freshman pitcher Meagan Hennessy (Freehold, NJ/Freehold Township HS) of
the Moravian College softball team have been named the Commonwealth Conference Player and
Pitcher of the Week for their performances last week.
Brey, the third different Moravian player to win the Commonwealth Player
of the Week award this season, helped the Greyhounds post a 3-1 record last week with a
doubleheader split at Ursinus College and a sweep of rival Muhlenberg College. Brey hit
.667 for the week with eight hits in 12 at-bats and she added three doubles, three home
runs and 11 RBIs. Brey was three-for-six at Ursinus with three doubles and three RBIs,
and she had a sacrifice, which led to the only run in Moravian’s 1-0 victory. Brey went
five-for-six against the Mules with eight RBIs and a trio of two-run homers. Brey also
drew a pair of walks in the doubleheader. Brey also added five putout
and ten assists in 17 chances in the field last week at third base.
Hennessy, who was named the Commonwealth Pitcher of the Week for the
third consecutive week, tossed a pair of shutouts and ran her scoreless streak to 22 2/3
innings. Hennessy began the week with a 1-0 victory at Ursinus College,
in which she allowed just two hits and two walks while striking out five batters. Hennessy tossed
1/3 of an inning of relief in the Greyhounds’ 4-3 loss to Ursinus, giving up two
hits and a walk. Hennessy closed the week with a six-inning, 8-0 shutout
of Muhlenberg College, allowing two hits and a walk while striking out five batters. For
the week, Hennessy gave up just six hits and four walks while striking
out ten batters in 13 1/3 innings.
Moravian is 14-4 on the season and will return to action on Thursday, April 3rd when
the team hosts Rowan (NJ) University in a non-conference doubleheader in Bethlehem beginning
at 2:30 p.m.
