FOUR NAMED MORAVIAN STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

BETHLEHEM, PA --- Junior Jessica Esposito (Madison, NJ/Madison HS) from the softball team, sophomore Kirsten Rotzell (Bangor, PA/Bangor HS) of the women’s outdoor track & field squad, junior Joe Moore (Andover, NJ/Newton HS) from the men’s outdoor track & field team and sophomore Stephen Tomaszewski (Bethlehem, PA/Bethlehem Catholic HS) of the baseball squad have been named the Moravian College Student-Athletes of the Week for their performances last week.

Esposito, an outfielder and designated hitter, helped the 18th ranked Greyhounds post a 3-1 record last week with a doubleheader split at Rowan (NJ) University and a sweep of Widener University to open the Commonwealth Conference season. Esposito hit .500 for the week with six hits in 12 at-bats and she added two doubles, a home run and five RBIs. Esposito was 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a doubles in the Greyhounds split with Rowan. She drove in Moravian’s only two runs in the team’s 2-1 victory over the Profs. Against Widener, Esposito was 4-for7 with three RBIs, a double and a two-run home run. Moravian is 17-5 overall and 2-0 in the Commonwealth Conference, and the Greyhounds will return to action on Tuesday, April 8th in a Commonwealth doubleheader versus Elizabethtown College beginning at 3:00 p.m. in Bethlehem.

Rotzell, a sprinter and jumper, won the long jump and triple jump to lead Moravian at the non-scoring Muhlenberg College Invitational. Rotzell captured the long jump with a leap of 5.29 meters (17 feet, 4 1/4 inches), and she won the triple jump with a distance of 11.24 meters (36 feet, 10 1/2 inches), just one-half of an inch shy of qualifying for the national championships. Rotzell also finished second in the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.94 seconds, and she placed third in the 200-meter dash in 26.73 seconds. Rotzell will compete at the Sea Ray Relays hosted by the University of Tennessee on April 11th and 12th.

Moore, a sprinter and jumper, placed first in the 100-meter dash and the long jump to lead the Greyhounds at the non-scoring Muhlenberg College Invitational. Moore won the 100-meter dash in 10.98 seconds, and he captured the long jump with an NCAA Division III provisional qualifying distance of 7.28 meters (23 feet, 10 3/4 inches). Moore also competed on the 4x100-meter relay teams, which finished in second place with a time of 43.21 seconds. Moore will compete at the Sea Ray Relays hosted by the University of Tennessee on April 11th and 12th.

Tomaszewski, a pitcher, tossed a nine-inning complete game victory over Lebanon Valley College in his only action last week. Tomaszewski allowed one run while scattering seven hits and two walks in the game. He also had nine strikeouts in the victory to improve to 4-1 on the season. Moravian is 9-7 overall and 7-3 in the Commonwealth Conference, and the Greyhounds will return to action on Wednesday, April 9th in a Commonwealth doubleheader at Lebanon Valley College at 1:00 p.m.
