GENEVESE NAMED SECOND TEAM VERIZON ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICAN
BETHLEHEM, PA --- Senior Jennifer Genevese (Whitehall, PA/Whitehall HS) has
been named to the 2003 Verizon Academic All-American College Division Women’s At-Large
Second Team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday.
The At-Large program includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse,
rifle, skiing, swimming, tennis and water polo for men and women, crew and field hockey
for women and volleyball and wrestling for men.
To be eligible for Verizon Academic All-America® honors, a student-athlete must maintain
at least a 3.20 grade-point average, be a sophomore, junior or senior and be a starter
or significant reserve. The College Division is made up of all the NCAA Division II and
III Schools in the nation as well as all NAIA schools. Student-athletes from NCAA Division
I schools are named to the University Division Teams.
Genevese helped the Moravian women’s tennis team post its second
straight undefeated season at 15-0, and win its third straight Middle Atlantic Conference
Championship. The Greyhounds also captured their sixth MAC title in seven years.
Genevese had a 15-5 singles record as Moravian's top player, and she
was 12-2 in dual matches last fall. Genevese also posted a 14-2 mark as
part of the Greyhounds' top doubles tandem. Genevese was a member of the
Commonwealth All-Conference Team for the second straight year, and she was also on the
MAC All-Academic Team for the third consecutive year. Genevese reached
the semifinals of the 2002 MAC Individual Tournament as the number three seed, and she
finished her career with a 53-13 singles record. This spring, Genevese was
named the Lehigh Valley Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women Tennis Player
of the Year, Moravian’s LVAIAW Senior Outstanding Athlete and Moravian’s Blue & Grey
Senior Scholar Athlete Award winner.
Genevese is the 26th Verizon Academic All-American in Moravian history
and the 21st in the last ten years.
